RadSeeker is a portable, rugged, and highly accurate radioisotope detector and identifier. RadSeeker was specifically designed to meet Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements for a next-generation system capable of detecting and identifying materials that pose a nuclear threat.

RadSeeker provides superior identification capabilities powered by Symetrica's Discovery Technology™. This technology combines advanced spectrum processing and identification algorithms with a range of highly sensitive lanthanum bromide (LaBrJ 1.5" x 1.5" or sodium iodide (Nal) 2" x 2" detectors to provide the superior accuracy that is exclusive to Smiths Detection. This sophisticated detection system is capable of analyzing a variety of shielding conditions and exceeds all ANSI N42.34 (2006) requirements for the identification of bare, isolated and complex isotopes.

RadSeeker is easy to operate and provides the operator with fast, simple and specific information to assess the level of danger. Targeted applications include customs inspection, border control, emergency response and facility/personnel radiological monitoring.

RadSeeker and Cargo Inspection

RadSeeker can be used in search and inspection applications to locate radioactive sources and accurately determine whether the radioactive material detected is a harmless natural source of radiation or a more dangerous source, such as a specific nuclear substance or a dirty nuclear bomb. For each identified source, RadSeeker performs a risk assessment, determining whether the source is safe or contains a threat, thereby eliminating the need for the operator to rely on assumptions.

RadSeeker and Emergency Management

In emergency situations, radiation response teams can quickly and accurately determine the presence of a radiation source and the level of danger associated with it. Built-in 802.11 WiFi and a satellite phone interface provide specialists in a remote control center with access to information such as the detected threat, source spectra, and the location of the device/operator.

In cases where it is unsafe to send an operator into the affected area, RadSeeker can be placed there by machine, and the device can be controlled and monitored from a safe distance.
