Device for searching for irregularities in the density of matter UPN-PM2030

The device consists of two modules: an information processing unit (IPU) and a scanning unit (SU) with a rubberized handle.

Operating principle
The operating principle of the device in the inspection mode is based on the registration of reflected radiation from the object being examined. The device uses a 133Ba gamma radiation source with an activity of 350-380 kBq (10 μCi). The source is located inside a safe lead container-collimator SU.

The intensity of the reflected radiation depends on the properties of the object being examined (its density and size). The device moves along the surface of the object being examined. The change in the density of the object is displayed on the device screen and duplicated by light, sound, and vibration signals. The frequency of signal repetitions depends on the size and density of the detected cavity or insertion. The device saves the history of events in non-volatile memory, and also gives sound and light signals when the set thresholds are exceeded. The sound alarm can be transmitted to the headphones via Bluetooth.

The lead container collimator provides the necessary narrow irradiation zone of the object in the inspection mode and complete protection of the operator from gamma radiation.

Characteristics in the inspection mode

The device in the inspection mode determines the density of the material of the detected object (plastic or metal) behind a partition made of wood or plastic no more than 20 mm thick, as well as a group of metals with a probability of 0.5.

The result of metal group determination is displayed on the LCD as the name of the corresponding metal group:

silver (ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, silver, cadmium, indium, tin, antimony)
lanthanum (tellurium, iodine, xenon, cesium, barium, lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium)
gadolinium (neodymium, promethium, samarium, europium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, holmium, erbium)
tungsten (thulium, ytterbium, lutetium, hafnium, tantalum, tungsten, rhenium, osmium)
gold (iridium, platinum, gold, mercury)
lead (thallium, lead, bismuth, polonium)

Compliance with standards
In terms of electromagnetic compatibility, the device complies with the standards STB IEC 61000-6-2-2011, STB IEC 61000-6-3-2012, STB GOST R 51522-2001

Complies with IAEA requirements (gamma source search mode)
